Cave Paper
Cave papers is a small mill in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All of their flax is cooked in a 3% solution of Calcium hydroxide. The water is filtered through activated carbon to remove chloring, dissolved minerals and particulate matter. Their beater is equipped with a washer wheel which rinses the fiber throughout the beating cycle. Since they loft dry the paper, some shrinkage does occur. Sizing is done with a 2/5% solution of gelatin. Due to the nature of the process variation from sheet to sheet does occur. No two sheets are alike however they evoke the same spirit.

Layered Indigo Night
Gelatin sized; dark Brown to black layered paper. Each one-of-a-kind papers is made with Belgian flax. The finished sheets are dipped into an indigo vat and then walnut dye is applied, producing striations or "land forms". The sheets are then sized.

OMalley Crackle
Gelatin sized; tan color with dark brown veins. Gelatin size is applied as a resist to Belgian flax. The paper is then submerged in walnut dye. This process is very much like batik on cloth.

Walnut
Gelatin sized; dark brown color. The Belgian flax paper is coated with several layers of walnut dye. The build-up of walnut produces a leather-like tone.

Walnut Dyed Red
Gelatin sized; dark red/brown color. Red iron oxide pigment has been added to Belgian flax before sheet-forming. the paper is coated with several layers of walnut dyed.

Indigo
Gelatin sized; indigo blue color. The Belgian flax paper is dipped several times in an indigo dye vat. The dying process gives each sheet an individual character.

Layered Indigo Day
Gelatin sized; uneven indigo blue color on natural. Each one-of-a-kind paper is made with a clean grade of natural Belgian flax. The sheets are repeatedly and irregularly dipped into an indigo vat to create striations and landscape forms. Due to the nature of our process there is variation from sheet to sheet.
